This Week’s Good News!
- Clague 8th grade student, León Pescador, received the Michigan Council for Social Studies Middle School Student of the Year Award. León received his award at the Council's annual state conference on Nov. 2.
- The Ann Arbor Public Schools was well represented in the MSBOA All-State High School/Middle School Band and Orchestra competition. The following students auditioned for and were accepted in the following groups:
High School Orchestra: Emma Powell, Briang Chang, Ben Merte (Skyline Orchestra), Tina Rowan, Catherine Vogt (Huron Orchestra/Band). High School Band: Karen Matsuo, Skye Huerta, Julia Pekela, Gina Son, Michael Sullivant (Pioneer Band), Peter Dixon, Peter Dolce (Huron Band), Doan Ichikawa (Skyline Band). Middle School Orchestra: Hiro Adachi, Maria Bonvicini, Deen Adzemovic, Dallan Roan, Shwetha Rajaram, Caroline Elliott, Alan Xu, Jessie Kim, (Clague Orchestra), MIchael Lee, Charles Wang, Chenxi Sun, Irene Wei, Lizzie Zinn (Slauson Orchestra), Andy Hsiao, Noah Aaron (Tappan Orchestra), Grace Pernecky (Forsythe Orchestra). Middle School Band: Paulina Tsao, Emily Ji, Lorna Barron, Nir Glazer (Clague Band), Anna Latterner, Kevin Jiang, Charles Wang, Elliot Polot (Slauson Band), Jordan Steiff (Scarlett Band), Griffin Roy, Halley Bass (Ann Arbor Open Band) Brandon Cutler (Tappan Band). Congratulation to these students and their Orchestra/Band directors for this acknowledgement of their hard work, dedication, and musicianship.
- Congratulations to Nikko Ceoux and Richard Johnson III on their election as president and vice president of the Roberto Clemente Student Council. The staff and student body participated in a simulated voting process. The candidates campaigned as well as debated and answered questions regarding their platform at a school-wide assembly. Voters were required to register and show proof of identity at the polls. The experience was inspirational and educational.
- Logan students and staff would like to thank the following administrators for financial support during our coin drive to benefit United Way and Food Gathers: Dr. Roberts, LeeAnn Dickinson-Kelley, Courtland Butts, Cassandra Benion, Sulura Jackson, Michael Madison, Bernard Bell and Lisa Allmendinger. With the overwhelming support from Logan students, staff, families and district personnel, Logan Elementary presented Dr. Roberts with a check for more than $1,539.97. - Pioneer graduate, Anna Cooke Class of 2007, was the starting goalkeeper on the Salisbury University Field Hockey Team that won the NCAA DIII National Championship on Sunday, November 22, 2009. She was selected to the All-Tournament Team and earned three shutouts in the four games on the way to the title.
