Ms. Detering

I am a life-long Michigander who graduated from Michigan State University with an education degree in 2015. I grew up in Ann Arbor and attended elementary school, middle school, and high school at AAPS. I started my teaching career in 2015 and have been teaching in AAPS since 2019. I am so lucky and incredibly grateful to now be an educator in the same education system that I attended myself as a child.  I care so much about this wonderful city and the vibrant community that calls it home, which is one of the reasons why I have so much passion for teaching the children in our community.

When I am not in the classroom, you can usually find me exploring new restaurants with my friends and family, playing and watching sports, going to concerts or reading a good book. I’m an avid lover of the outdoors and try to spend as much time as possible being in nature.  I have many passions that are part of me that I love sharing with my students and one of my goals is to help my students find, embrace and share their passions too!

I want students and families to think of school as a place to have fun.  It is my hope that all of my students feel free to both pursue their passions in my classroom, to challenge themselves to grow, and to push themselves to accomplish things they never believed possible.

Ms. Mable

My name is Angie Mable. I’m a University of Michigan Graduate with a B.Ed in Elementary Education and a Minor in History. I am a legacy teacher coming from a family of educators. This is my first year teaching at Wines in fourth grade and teaching in general! I am excited to begin my journey at Wines where I completed my student teaching in Kindergarten. I currently live in Ann Arbor and when I am not teaching, I’m with my family and friends trying new restaurants and exploring the city!

Mr. Popkey

Born and raised in Kalamazoo, I come from an extensive lineage of teachers. I have lived in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area for nearly twenty years. I hold a B.F.A. in Art Education from Michigan State, an M.A. in Women and Gender Studies from Eastern Michigan, and an M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan. I began teaching in 2011. Before coming to Wines I taught 3rd grade, 5th grade and 7th/8th grade science. I am passionate about integrating social justice, eco-justice and arts into education.

When I am not teaching, I can be found with my spouse and toddler at the Ypsilanti Farmers Market or camping near Lake Michigan. I enjoy reading, traveling, making art, playing sports and dancing.
